“Making Space”: a semi-social online working event
Hello, GuMMies - Kristen here to introduce an upcoming (and soon-to-be regularly occuring) event.
We all know how it goes. “This week,” you tell yourself, “THIS WEEK, I am going to work on that story.”
“This week, I’m going to revise that poem.”
“The week, I’m going to draw that long-form comic about CHAUCER IN SPACE!”
What, that one’s just me?
Regardless, if you are a practicing creative, it’s likely that this is a battle you have fought with yourself on and off through your artistic life. You have the ideas. You have the skillset. You have the desire to create that drives this whole thing. Yet, somehow, time continues to get away from you. At the end of the week, you story has gone un-continued, your poem un-revised, and Chaucer is still stuck on Planet Earth with nary a space transport vehicle in sight.
One way to combat this complication is to schedule dedicated creative time in your agenda, but that can also be difficult and sometimes even weirdly guilt-inducing. Some people feel uncomfortable taking time like this for themselves even though they want to — so what if you tricked yourself into thinking that instead you are dedicating the time to support our group? By logging in for a 90 minute “Making Space” session, you will be developing your creative practice while also supporting the GuMMy mission and acting as an accountability buddy to your fellow GuMMies. Our hope is that these semi-regularly occurring sessions will help us all to build healthier creative habits in the company of people who know how difficult that can be.
The first session will take place from 5:30pm to 7:00pm (UK time) on 17 April 2025. We will send the meeting link via email, so be sure to register through our contact form if you have not yet!
Together, we can all send Chaucer into space…
The ghost of Geoffrey Chaucer, floating through space. (No word yet on why a ghost would need a helmet… the man liked hats.)
