The Guild’s First Birthday Party: Show & Tell!

On Thursday 2nd April we celebrated our First Birthday with a special version of our online ‘Making Space’ sessions: A Show & Tell! Eleanor designed brilliant birthday hats which were proudly worn by the Founders and we had a fantastic evening with the talented GuMMies who joined us!

Kristen introduced the evening and Eleanor was a superb Master of Ceremonies, introducing the ten members who shared their incredible work with us including poetry, song, historical fiction, embroidery, artwork including comics, calligraphy, linocut, and various kinds of illustration, and the upcoming launches of exciting funded projects and youtube performances. We were blown away by the creativity of our members and can’t wait to share more of their work in our upcoming Meet a Medievalist Maker blogposts.

We had one or two announcements of our own to make too. Keep your eyes peeled for a workshop next month that Laura & Kristen are running on zoom on ‘Modular Haiku Comics’ (no experience necessary, either of poetry or comics!). This workshop will also be on offer in person at the New Chaucer Society congress in Freiburg, Germany, at the end of July, where the Guild will be sponsoring the workshop strand of the conference and running an in-person Making Space session. We look forward to meeting many GuMMies then!

We also announced our forthcoming Members Directory which will be a password-protected online database whereby members can sign-up to share their details with each other in order to facilitate collaboration and mentoring, arrange co-working sessions, and more! Details to follow by email very soon.

We are so grateful for the amazing support that we have received from all our members over the past year- the Guild is now 125 strong and counting! Here’s to the next twelve months!

Yours creatively and collaboratively,

Laura, Kristen, & Eleanor :)
